March Rewind

Wow, March… what a month! I can’t recall a more chaotic month ever in my life. But I suppose it is comforting that we’re all in this together! At the start of the year, I never imagined 2020 would end up like this, just three months into the year. It is very surreal to be watching the news and know I am living through something that will soon be written into medical textbooks and history books all over the world. How everyone is reacting to COVID-19 is going to shape them for the rest of their lives.

March started with my trip to Dublin, Ireland for spring break, as a part of my embedded capstone class, getting cancelled. And it all went downhill from there.

Although I was crushed by that decision, I know that in order to combat the Coronavirus and minimize harm it was in the world's best interest. I still tried to make the most of what spring break I had left. So I drove to New Jersey, I was so tired of Penn State at that point I did all of my exams and assignments early and got out of dodge as quickly as I could.

We ended up spending the weekend between Long Beach Island and Atlantic City and it was the perfect little last minute getaway, given the circumstances. Disclaimer: This was all before the CDC recommended self-quarantine and limiting travel to public places!

We spent a night at The Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, and tried (and failed) our hand at gambling. Although we didn’t blow all our money, or win big, it was still something fun we got to say we did. I had never been in a casino before, and quite frankly have no desire to return-- my poor lungs have never experienced that much second-hand smoke before!

The following day we made our way back to LBI and climbed up the Barnegat Lighthouse… I was so scared, but nevertheless persisted-- especially when a six-year-old teased me for crying. Luckily, it was a beautiful day and little did we know that would be the last time we could do something like that for a while.

It is hard to believe that the month of March has flown by and I know these next few months will be even harder than the last.

I hope this post finds you well and you can find some time to reflect on your month as well, stay safe out there!

xoxo, talk soon!
