Welcome back to #WhatsInMyPotWednesday, y’all! Todays plant is extra special to me! This past Valentine’s Day my boyfriend travelled to Penn State from New Jersey so we could spend the weekend together. He walked into my apartment with this adorable little plant.
“I knew you would love this more than flowers,” he said as I quickly cleared a space for it on my desk.
He brought me a Curtain Fig, or more widely known as a Bonsai Tree! I was so excited to learn all about them! At the time all I knew was that Bonsai Trees were meant to represent peace, harmony, maybe? Let’s see if I was right!

Curtain Figs can grow as tall as 49-82 feet, but I’m sure mine will never get that tall considering it is a Bonsai, meaning it is a dwarf tree, prevented from reaching its normal size. What I love about this plant is the exposed trunk, often said to look like a child’s arms and legs, how cute!
It is very important to place your Bonsai in a spot where it will get full sun, mine is currently in a dining room getting plenty of sunlight and is loving it! Just since February it has grown so much!

Also, be sure to let soil completely dry before watering it again, and do not let the water puddle up. If the plant is overwatered, the leaves will turn yellow. Mine is in a clear, bowl-like pot which makes it easy to watch the soil and water levels-- it is also fun to watch the water trickle through it!
A great perk about these plants is they are relatively easy to take care of and they are a perfect decoration! The Curtain Fig represents longevity, auspiciousness, splendor and wealth. So perhaps I wasn’t too far off?
I hope this post finds you well, stay safe out there!
xoxo, talk soon!
